HMRC – Scam Alert
With the increase in HMRC grants being available to both individuals and businesses due to COVID – 19, we also usually see an increase in the number of scam and phishing emails and texts that may be received.
Our advice is NEVER to enter any personal or financial information via text, email or by following a link.
You may be due a payment from HMRC but this will always be communicated by letter or via your personal or business government gateway account.
This week HMRC has released new, updated guidance on ‘Genuine HMRC contact’. Please read this and ensure you are not caught out!
Some key points to note –
- HMRC will NEVER request personal of financial information in an email or text
- HMRC is currently sending emails and texts but this will ALWAYS be of an informative nature.
Any refunds will be communicated by letter or via your personal or business tax account - Fraudsters will almost always request ‘immediate’ or ‘urgent’ action
- If in doubt – contact us. We receive a copy of any correspondence regarding refunds for all of our clients, so can confirm this and give you peace of mind.
