In an age where many of us manage our banking and bills from our phones, it’s no surprise that HMRC has stepped into the mobile era with an app. The HMRC App is a simple to use tool that brings much of your tax and benefits information in one secure, accessible space.
At CFW, we see it as another tool in your financial toolkit – one that can help simplify what is often seen as complex and opaque.
What the HMRC App Can Do For You:-
· Allow you to check your tax code, National Insurance, income and benefits all in one place.
· View your employment and income history of the last five years, including what has been reported to HMRC.
· See your Self Assessment (SA)details, how much tax you owe, upcoming deadlines. You can even make SA payments directly through the app using online banking.
· Claim tax refunds – if you’ve overpaid.
· Manage Child Benefit – make a claim, track payments and update your details.
· Access your State Pension forecast and check for gaps in your National Insurance contributions.
· Enable you to update your personal details, such as name, address, and go paperless with HMRC correspondence –should you wish.
· Set reminders – for payment deadlines or key dates – so you don’t forget.
The App has a secure, user-friendly interface. When logging in for the first time you’ll need to use your Government Gateway credentials. Subsequently you can log in more easily using a 6-digit PIN, fingerprint or face recognition.
What It Means for You & How CFW Can Help
There’s no doubt that the HMRC App is a powerful tool – but like all tools, it’s usefulness depends on how and when you use it.
We see this as a great add on to use along side our tax return services allowing us to:
· Assist you in checking your tax code and spotting discrepancies early.
· Guide you in managing your National Insurance gaps, or State Pension forecasts – the app give you visibility; we help you act.

There is an app for everything! A well-used cliché but also a truth, and never more when it comes to accounting software. There are providers a-plenty: Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, Freeagent and ClearBooks. Even banks are getting on board, providing dedicated tools to analyse bank transactions for business purposes. In fact, HMRC’s Making Tax Digital compliance software list has over 400 software apps available from a large number of suppliers.
Millions of households are facing a rise in energy costs, alongside increases in the cost of council tax, water bills and other utilities and there is a warning of fresh energy bill price rises in October. Energy prices have been affected by the Ukraine war and pressure on suppliers. There are continuing delays and shortages on a wide range of goods businesses need to function properly.
